Lip fillers are a popular treatment to help restore definition, volume and proportion around the lips and mouth. If you have undefined lips, are concerned that they appear to be thinning as you age or feel conscious of an uneven appearance, lip fillers can be an ideal solution. Temporary lip fillers help boost the skin’s hydration levels and provide you with long-lasting results without the need to commit to a permanent cosmetic procedure.

Lip fillers for instant, long-lasting results

At The Cooden Medical Group we use temporary lip fillers that contain a substance called hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally produced within the body and is responsible for maintaining our skin’s moisture levels to replenish a healthy, supple complexion. This also means that most of our bodies can naturally tolerate hyaluronic acid fillers, making them a safe and effective treatment.

  • Why might I need lip fillers?

Over time, our natural levels of hyaluronic acid can diminish, causing the skin around our mouths, chin and jaw to sag and lose its natural elasticity, and make your lips appear thinner. If you smoke, drink a lot of alcohol, spend a lot of time outdoors or even exercise excessively, this can start to happen earlier in life. Lip fillers are a temporary solution to help restore volume, definition and youthfulness within your skin.

For some, they may feel conscious of the appearance of thin, undefined or uneven lips, or wish to improve the appearance of slight scarring. Lip fillers can also be used to treat these concerns.

    Are lip fillers safe?

All lip fillers at the Cooden Medical Group are administered by a trained, medical practitioner. We use leading brands that utilise hyaluronic acid, a chemical found naturally within the body, meaning that most of us can tolerate the substance with little chance of an allergic reaction.

As with all cosmetic treatments, there is always a small risk of an allergic reaction, which we will discuss with you at your consultation.

How long will my lip fillers last?

This will vary between individuals and also depends on factors such as your age, skin type and additional lifestyle factors such as smoking or drinking. Generally, you can expect results to last between 6-12 months as the substance will naturally break down. To maintain your results, a repeat treatment is often carried out after six months for lips.

    Are lip fillers painful?

You shouldn’t experience much pain with lip fillers as we use very fine needles to inject fillers and use products that contain the painkiller Lidocaine. For lip fillers, we may use an anaesthetic nerve block, similar to ones used by your dentist.

After your treatment, you may experience redness, swelling, slight pain or discomfort and itching or tenderness around your lips and mouth. However, these symptoms generally resolve themselves after a day or two.
