Cellulite Treatments
Although it sounds like a medical condition, cellulite is simply a combination of normal fat beneath the skin, coupled with some fluid retention. The resulting appearance is an ‘orange peel’ – or bumpy effect, as the underlying fat layer pushes against connective tissue, causing the skin above to pucker.
Over 90% of women suffer from cellulite to some degree and it typically appears on the lower half of the body, in areas where extra weight is hard to shift such as buttocks, thighs and the stomach. Many women find it particularly difficult to get rid of cellulite – which can be hereditary - with weight loss and exercise not guaranteeing results.
Having cellulite doesn't mean you are overweight as even thin people can have it. However if you are overweight, losing weight may reduce the appearance of cellulite.
There are a number of factors that influence how much cellulite you have and how visible it is which include:
- Yoyo dieting
- Slow metabolism
- Lack of exercise
- Hormonal changes
- Dehydration
- Thickness and skin tone
- An unbalanced diet
