Shine like the sun on your summer holiday!

Holidays are where memories are made so it’s natural to want to look your best. But if you feel that nature could do with a helping hand, then now might be the time to look into what’s available.

Dr Katherine Dickinson, aesthetic physician at the Cooden Medical Group, said: “We offer a whole spectrum of beauty and aesthetic treatments for the face and body. At your initial consultation you will be provided with all the information required to make the choices that deliver the best results, from correcting imperfections to maintaining skin health, giving you back a youthful, radiant and fresh appearance.”

At the least invasive end of the spectrum is a skincare regime that you can do at home. Obagi is a prescription only range that helps correct signs of sun and environmental damage. It can also help stimulate collagen production and increase the skin’s elasticity which helps to restore youth and vitality.

If your quest is for a smooth, blemish free body then you might want to consider laser treatment to permanently remove unwanted hair. It’s becoming increasingly popular with both men and women. Shannen Woods, aesthetic therapist at the Cooden Medical Group, said: “Making the decision to throw away the razor is one very few regret. Soft, stubble free skin can never be underestimated and is definitely worth the cost of this effective treatment.”

Skin blemishes like moles, warts and skin tags are very common but if you are self-conscious about them and they restrict what you wear then maybe you should consider getting them removed. In any case it’s always a good idea to get any new or growing skin lesions checked out – they are usually harmless but if not, then the sooner they are treated, the better. Dr Suneeta Kochhar runs a skin lesion clinic at the Cooden Medical Group where she can remove moles, warts, skin tags and the like and if appropriate, will send them for testing.

While we are on the subject of skin health, please remember that too much sun exposure will cause permanent damage and accelerate signs of ageing, not to mention increasing the risk of developing skin cancer. It’s really important that you use a high factor sun cream that offers UVA and UVB protection and check to make sure it’s within its use-by date as sun creams lose their protective qualities with age. Most people don’t use enough sun cream so apply it liberally before going out in the sun and re-apply every hour or two.

Feeling good about the way you look is important – if you are confident and comfortable in your skin then perhaps you’ll enjoy your summer holiday even more…
