Dermaroller and Dermapen®

Most of us would like to improve our skin in some way, and here at The Cooden Medical Group we have lots of ways to do just that. If you are looking for something naturally effective that provides quick results and little downtime, we recommend Dermaroller or Dermapen® treatment.

Both treatments do away with acids or chemicals and instead use tiny micro-medical needles to promote the natural repair mechanisms of the skin, stimulating repair and collagen growth using controlled channels of micro trauma.

Dermaroller

Dermaroller treatment involves the use of a rolling system, equipped with multiple thin needles to stimulate the skin. We provide home use Dermaroller treatment options, as well as a clinic based medical grade Dermaroller treatment course (3 treatments are recommended).

Dermapen®

This micro-needling device uses a stamp-like action on the skin; the depth of which is adjusted according to the area treated and dependent on the condition of your skin. In time, the healing process that follows the resulting ‘micro trauma’, leads to firming up of the skin and a visible tightening.

Most patients report to finding the Dermapen® more comfortable a treatment than the Dermaroller. The time needed to complete each session is significantly reduced due to the greater number of insertions. ® can also be combined with other treatments such as mesotherapy, chemical peels and electroporation.

Here at The Cooden Medical Group we use Dermaroller and Dermapen® to successfully treat the following issues:

  • Acne scars
  • Acne
  • Enlarged pores
  • Facial sagging
  • Hair loss
  • Ageing skin conditions on the face, neck, décolleté and the back of the hands
  • Stretch marks on thighs, bust, buttocks and tummies
  • Pigmentation
  • Dermalux And Derma Roller treatments rejuvenate skin
  • dermaroller treatment stimulates and rejuvenates the skin
  • dermarollers can be used on the body to help with stretchmarks and pigmentation on the thighs, buttocks or stomach
  • dermarollers can help with the appearance of acne, acne scars and hair loss
  • dermarollers have micro needles to treat the skin

We use this treatment in conjunction with other procedures to ensure that the products we use penetrate the skin, effectively amplifying the effects, providing long lasting results.

  • What happens during a treatment?

Before each treatment we apply a thick anaesthetic cream for around 45 minutes to the area to be treated. It is then removed and the area cleansed. After treatment the area is cleansed and a moisturiser and sunblock applied.

How do I look after treatment?

You will look red, resembling moderate sunburn and your skin will feel warmer and tighter. These normally reduce by 50% within an hour or two and will normally recover within the same day with only slight redness the following day.

Is Dermaroller or Dermapen® right for me?

Although these treatments are very safe, there are several contraindications when the treatment should not be used, i.e. active cold sores and acne, those taking anticoagulant therapy, retinoids, or some kinds of acne treatment, a history of keloid scarring, certain skin conditions etc. Our medical history form and consultation will determine whether you are a suitable candidate for treatment.

How long does it take to see the results?

It can take up to 6 weeks to see the results, the regeneration process continues over the following months require 3-5 treatments again with 6 weeks between each treatment. It is recommended a one-off treatment is performed every 6 months to maintain the effects.

    Is there downtime?

There is no down time and the results are quick to appear and last a long time.

    Are these treatments painful?

Due to the application of the anaesthetic cream the treatment should not be painful, but maybe a little uncomfortable. However the brow area and the upper lip is slightly more sensitive to treat.
